European Atomic Energy Community
= Euratom
The organization set up by the six members of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1957; the European Economic Community was established at the same time. Euratom was formed to create the technical and industrial conditions necessary to produce nuclear energy on an industrial scale. Its controlling bodies were absorbed into the European Commission in 1967.
